Vein and Flake Graphite

About Flake Graphite

It is called Flake Graphite because of the form which Graphite exists.  This Graphite is disseminated throughout the rock or clay in the form like salt-and-pepper.  The grade of these raw ore is low, usually FC2-10%, most of which is mined by open-pit.  The Mined Graphite is crushed with a wet ball mill to separate rocks and Graphite, and floating beneficiation is performed that only Graphite is floated to be recovered repeatedly, then the Graphite reached to FC80-97% is imported to Japan.  Graphite of large flake is often used in refractory applications, and the others are used for various applications after crushed and classified in Japan.

About Vein Graphite

It is called Vein Graphite.  It is mined by underground method, exists in the form of lumps between the bedrocks, and the grade of raw ore is generally high at FC60-98%.  It is removed impurities by hand sorting, crushed, and classified by grain-size.  Depending on the shape, it can be classified into “Lamps” which is average of about 25 mm, “Chips” which is a wood chip size, and “Chippy dust” which is powder mixing.  Compared to Flake Graphite, impurities are often present alone, and high grade can be obtained by only flotation.  Although its fire resistance is slightly inferior to that of Flake Graphite, it has same lubrication and electrical properties and it is widely used.  Regarding how to use it with Flake Graphite, at the moment, every user has own methods and various evaluations.
